Product Description

Both drivers were specifically developed and designed for the CLASSIC 5. The powerful midwoofer has a cone made from woven glass fibre that combines low weight with high internal damping. Sound-disrupting partial oscillations of the cone are thereby effectively prevented. Both drive motor and suspension ensure rich bass performance and impeccable step response at the same time. The fixed phase plug reduces compression effects, which can lead to imperfections especially in the sensitive mid-range. In addition, heat generated during operation can more easily escape from the system, while the physical parameters remain the same even at higher volumes.

The tweeter excels with a silk dome and a powerful drive motor. The slightly horn-like shape allows a sensitive adjustment of the sound radiation behaviour in the transition zone between mid and high frequencies. This way, the spatial image remains homogenous and threedimensional even somewhat outside the sweetspot.

Another particular feature is the crossovers intelligent architecture. Instead of using a classic printed circuit board, the CLASSIC 5 comes with a freely wired crossover with high-quality components such as film capacitors.

In the well reknown tradition of AUDIO PHYSIC, the drivers of the CLASSIC 5 are housed in a solid and artfully crafted cabinet. The oversized plinth gives the speaker a secure footing on any surface and makes the CLASSIC 5 look modern and elegant, no matter which version or real wood veneer you choose.

Thanks to the integrated M8 threaded bushings to take the standard spikes, the CLASSIC 5 therefore also offers the possibility to be equipped with the optional high-quality AUDIO PHYSIC VCF II M8 feet. These Vibration Control Feet (VCF) decouple the speaker from the floor and lift the sonic performance to a noticeable higher level and that not only on sensitive floors.

From the opening bars of music, I was greeted with a lovely open sound with a large sound stage and running in these speakers didn’t seem to be an issue. I don’t know whether Audio Physic run them in before sending them out, but any tedious waiting for fifty hours or so for them to blossom wasn’t necessary. Like my big Avanti iii’s the Classic 5 casts a good wide and deep sound stage with plenty of detail.

The Classic 5 proves that the German manufacturer has it where it counts. Audio Physic has managed to create a floor standing speaker that not only looks deceptively expensive but also punches above its weight in the performance arena. Additionally, thanks to its size, this musical performer can fit into practically any room. Its dimensions also allow you the flexibility in placement experimentation – this is something well worth spending some time doing.

About the brand

In the course of their 35-year company history, they have written hifi history several times, thanks to their developers Joachim Gerhard, known in the scene as "the Magician", and their current chief developer Manfred Diestertich. From Avanti and Virgo, the first floor-standing loudspeakers on the market, to the Medea launched in 1991. A legend in the hifi scene. Frenetically celebrated by the trade press as a "resolution miracle" due to its touching reproduction of music, the post-modern-designed Medea was a worldwide reference loudspeaker for years. Always in search of even more music, in 1993 the Cardeas loudspeaker showed an unprecedented level of detail along with the entire frequency band. A new reference loudspeaker was born. Again from Audio Physic.

They set market standards

Audio Physic products are created in a long and intensive process. Each speaker goes through hundreds of listening tests. Each component is tested and continuously improved. And not only from an acoustic but also from an aesthetic point of view. With this dedication, not only Audio Physic reference models are created, but all of their loudspeakers.

They are pioneers in the research and application of new materials and structures in loudspeaker development. And set market standards in the process. Always in search of an even more authentic sound, they do not leave any detail unnoticed. They were the first company to use ceramic foam and showed that glass is not a taboo material. While many manufacturers now rely on dome tweeters, they have been working on the further development of their aluminum cone tweeters for over 15 years. Their drivers are another important component for an emotional, dynamic, and undistorted listening experience. The largely self-developed chassis are unparalleled in the world of hifi.

Hand made in Germany

Their products are manufactured by hand in Brilon, Sauerland. This makes them one of the last loudspeaker manufacturers in Germany. Rooted in Brilon in the Sauerland region, many of their suppliers come from the surrounding area. Regionality and sustainability are part of their DNA.

Audio Physic loudspeakers only leave the house after careful measurement and acoustic tests. Since they attach great importance to competent advice and good service, they sell their products exclusively through high-quality retailers.
