Chord Epic XL Speaker Cable Pair | Audio Emotion

Product Description

Epic XL combines elements of our Epic and Signature Reference/XL speaker cables. A specially chosen soft PVC internal jacket is added to correctly space the shielding and minimise mechanical noise. A high density braid and foil shield is applied to each set of conductors and this is in turn protected by a translucent outer jacket, again chosen to reduce unwanted mechanical noise. Each set of Epic XL is built to order at The Chord Company. The conductors are twisted together and clamped in place before being terminated with either banana or spade connectors. By separately shielding the positive and negative conductors of each speaker cable run, we can produce a version of Epic that sounds markedly more refined and musically coherent. Its particularly good at carrying micro-dynamics and detail and brings great separation and definition to instruments and voices.

Source components and loudspeakers are evolving. The level of resolution that used to be the preserve of high-end audio has trickled down to some surprisingly affordable designs. The downside is that they may well show you things you dont want to hear like your cables! Epic XL takes a crucial step forwards in performance by using separate shields for each conductor. That means neutrality, less noise, a bigger and more immersive soundstage and most of all, it means getting new joy from your existing music collection. Its a cable that can transform a good system into something quite spectacular.

The first thing I noticed when plugging in the Chords was the quality of the bass... simply potent and tuneful. It provides a solid foundation for all the instruments that float above. The guitars and vocals took on a greater presence - it just sounds more together and characterful... retained its perfect tonality. This is what the Epic XLs do so well - they allow the music to flow without imposing too much of their own character. As such they represent an excellent buy. I've no hesitation in saying these are some of the best cables I have heard from the Chord stable... these will certainly bring the best from your system. Plug in, listen and enjoy.

Bristles with energy and excitement and has fantastic detail with the speaker cable in place. Drums are perfectly positioned towards the right-hand side of the soundstage. The soundstage has enormous depth and I feel part of the audience with the performers playing on the stage in front of me. I am able to individually locate all eight players as the cable positively allows the sense of realism in the presentation to flow. This is certainly an epic offering that delivers an enhanced level of clarity and detail to performances.

About the brand

The Chord Company was formed in 1984. It all started over dinner one night in Salisbury, when a group of visiting Naim Audio USA retailers asked Naim Audio UK for a good-quality DIN-to-RCA interconnect. At the table, was one Sally Gibb, then married to a Naim Audio executive, who made the (historic) suggestion that she make the cables and start a business. With the blessing of Naim Audio, the journey to make cables for America began.

With USA referring to cables as ‘cords’, the name The Chord Company, with its obvious musical connotations, seemed perfect and it quickly stuck. Sally drew a logo, designed the packaging and started testing prototypes. Completely British design and construction, although difficult to source at the time, was paramount and days of searching eventually led to suppliers of sufficient quality. Friends at Naim Audio provided expertise and advice, with many of them helping to build the cables.

The first prototype was named "Chrysalis Cable" and the Americans swiftly returned with an initial order of 250! Cables were built, tested, packed and taken along to the Post Office. Invoices were typed on a typewriter! After two steady years, The Chord Company got its first press review (by Malcolm Steward) and then the phone started to ring…

'In Stock' items ordered before 1pm will be dispatched the same day.

We use DPD Local 'Next Day Service' for most UK deliveries. Orders sent via 'DPD Local - Next Day Service' will be fully tracked with a 1-hour delivery timeslot on the day of delivery. Standard delivery is Monday to Friday.

Saturday delivery can be selected at checkout for £19.95.

Small items and LP's may be sent using Royal Mail.
