A complex design: high-class lacquered and wooden veneered cabinets, which have a trapezoid shape and are angled rearward, combined with aluminium and glass.

The design catches eyes but conduces acoustics, too. The sound of VELA shows it´s family background to successful series 400.

But the advantages are distinct. The angling of the cabinet in combination with the new wave-guide of the JET tweeter improves the definition of stereo and multi-channel audio in modern furnishing. But there are more than the obvious changes. For example the optimised drivers are able to reproduce high-energy transients more precisely.

smoothness and evenness. JET tweeter, which is as good as I have ever heard it. The midband is clean and couth yet precisely, and bass is tight and extended.

Exceptional high frequency performance, regardless of the music being played. It flatters everything. Beautifully recorded acoustic instruments, from violins to cor anglais. Giving and open and spacious sound. Hi-hat cymbals had a crispness and sheen I've rarely heard from any £4k speaker, while the rich harmonics from the electronic organ and massed string backing shimmered all around. There's a seamless transition from one drive unit to the other.

Reproduce the music in a vibrant, living and breathing form. It was a joy to behold all the respective elements of the mix. This loudspeaker is a class act.

Has a deep, sumptuous bassline... the result is a tuneful, engaging sound. Demonstrates plenty of dynamic light and shade.

Very adept at conveying subtle dynamic contrasts within a piece of music while also reproducing a better sense of 'space'... it served up a panoramic sense of the concert hall, with plenty of space about the orchestra along with a keen sense of the location of the individual instrumentalists. There was a very realistic feeling of atmosphere... surprisingly good stage depth too.

Brought out of the life and soul of the sound to impressive effect.

Fast, lithe, agile, smooth, open and engaging.

About the brand

It began on September 1, 1926 in Kiel, Germany, when Electroacustic GmbH was founded to focus on the development of sonar technology and the research of signal and sound channels in air and water.

ELAC's passion for music and fascination with sound followed with their first consumer audio product, the PW1 record player in 1948. ELAC continued to lead the burgeoning audio industry with innovative turntables and electronics. By 1984, ELAC began designing loudspeakers in conjunction with AXIOM Electroacoustic Speaker Specialists. One year later, ELAC's newly developed 4Pi omnidirectional tweeter, a driver that combined extended range with broad dispersion, bringing true “high endâ€_x009d_ to high-end audio. It turned the listening world on its collective ear and launched ELAC into the company of the most elite speaker manufacturers.

ELAC and innovation go hand-in-hand, and in 1993, ELAC introduced the JET folded-ribbon tweeter. With an expanded frequency response up to 35 kHz, the JET tweeter proved that a driver whose response goes beyond the limits of human hearing sounds better over its entire range. The JET has been continually refined and is featured today in both home and automotive applications.

'In Stock' items ordered before 1pm will be dispatched the same day.

We use DPD Local 'Next Day Service' for most UK deliveries. Orders sent via 'DPD Local - Next Day Service' will be fully tracked with a 1-hour delivery timeslot on the day of delivery. Standard delivery is Monday to Friday.

Saturday delivery can be selected at checkout for £19.95.

Small items and LP's may be sent using Royal Mail.
