HOME THEATRE REVIEW - 2022 EDITOR'S CHOICE

There's nothing to overthink with the new KLH Model 5. The question is simple: Does an updated version of this classic design deliver the goods? The answer is unambiguous: Yes, this is a music lover's speaker system that looks and sounds fantastic, earning it a Home Theater Review Editor's Choice award.

STEREOPHILE - RECOMMENDED COMPONENT

The M5s let me hear all the differences between amplifiers and recordings via its clean treble, open midrange, and controlled, authoritative bass. The M5 was a forensic instrument when needed and an audiophile speaker capable of reproducing rich, true-to-the-source sounds when desired. For not a lot of money. The KLH M5s are intoxication kings, urging me to hear my most beloved vinyl via its big personality and well-scaled dimensionality.

I thought, "If only I'd kept that pair of original M5s I found uptown!" But the revived KLH Model Five turned any regrets into a hearty smile of satisfaction.

Sound & Vision - TOP PICK

I enjoyed the many hours I spent listening with the KLH Model Fives. Is it the perfect loudspeaker? The tweeter in the new Model Five is likely to be far more revealing than the one found in the original, so if your taste leans toward warm and forgiving sound, this might not be the best choice. But if you want to hear all the detail present in well-produced music, along with fulfilling, dynamic performance across the full frequency range, you won't be disappointed.

STEREONET - APPLAUD AWARD

So, is the KLH Model Five a good buy, or is it just bye-bye? Definitely the former. Many listeners will find it a match made in heaven because regardless of musical genre, it sounds fun. It delivers memorable experiences when all too often speakers can sound rather matter-of-fact. Its classic looks are also a serious plus, as far as I'm concerned. The styling channels an entirely different era in loudspeaker design, even if the engineering is a modern take on it. Overall then, highly recommended and catch it if you can.

...plenty of detail, performers portrayed in a large acoustic space. The KLH sounds fuller with more body, which I like.

The Model Five's dynamics are strong, easily besting the Graham LS6... wonderful - showing meatier bass from the KLH than the LS6. The Five paint a bigger soundstage.

The Model Five sound tight whilst maintaining commendable depth...their handling of big dynamic swings are two key calling cards.

...listeners will admire the KLH's ability to paint a big soundstage and place performers accurately within it.

...a more homogenous sound.

The sound is agile...

The Palpability of performers is top-notch...well defined in the acoustic space. Female vocals sound especially gorgeous.

The Model Five carve their own path.

The KLH are good rock speakers. Orchestral lovers will also find much to enjoy here...be rewarded with a BIG sound that's dynamic and detailed...don't underestimate their long-term potential.

About the brand

KLH is an audio company founded in 1957 as KLH Research and Development Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States, by Henry Kloss, Malcolm S. Low, and Josef Anton Hofmann originally to produce loudspeakers. KLH was once the largest loudspeaker company in the world, employing over 500 people and shipping over 30,000 speakers a year to retailers and distributors throughout six continents.

KLH has deep roots firmly planted in high-fidelity sound reproduction as a ground-breaking company of firsts, launching the first-ever high-selectivity FM table radio, Model Eight, the first full-range electrostatic loudspeaker, Model Nine, highly regarded by the audiophile community and picked by Stereophile magazine as "one of the twelve best loudspeakers ever built", the first portable solid-state record player named the Model Eleven, and introduced Ray Dolby of Dolby Laboratories, to the consumer product market through the first reel-to-reel tape recorder featuring the Dolby noise reduction, the Model Forty.

KLH also introduced some of the best selling loudspeakers in the world over the course of many years, most notably, the Model Five, Model Six, and Model Seventeen, featuring the acoustic suspension loudspeaker design originally developed by Edgar Villchur and our founder Henry Kloss.

KLH was purchased by David P. Kelley, longtime Klipsch and VOXX executive, in 2017. He moved the global headquarters to Noblesville, Indiana.
