The MDAC+ is a digital preamplifier and D/A converter with a variety of inputs and outputs and a volume control that can be switched on and off. For the first time, this digital-to-analogue converter makes it possible to directly compare a digital volume control with an analogue volume control.
By using modern components optimised for hi-fi applications, we are now able to take the reproduction quality of the MDAC+ to the extreme, with a fine resolution and digital detail, combined with a pleasant analogue sound.
The digital preamplifier and converter MDAC+ is the product of our efforts to give you a device that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of sound and comfort.
Digital accuracy meets analogue sound
High-quality switches, two sample rate converters and a modern 24-bit 192 kS multibit digital-to-analog converter allow the listener to choose from a variety of bit resolutions and conversion rates. This means that musical playback can be tailored to individual listening habits with a high sound resolution.
In particular, the digital filter of the D/A converter, which works without pre-ringing, makes the MDAC+ sound very analogue.
A potentially isolated USB interface makes it possible to play back tracks that are stored on a PC in high quality.
Using the volume control that can be switched on and off, the signal can be attenuated down to -99 dB in 1 dB steps. The drivers of the analogue RCA outputs establish the connection to a preamplifier, power amplifiers or active loudspeakers. The low output resistance of 50 ohms and the maximum current of up to 35 mA rms of these driver stages enable, on the one hand, correct line matching and, on the other hand, the use of sometimes unavoidably long cables without the music signal being affected by the cables.
All parts of the electronics of the MDAC+ are DC-coupled in order to ensure perfect transmission of even the lowest frequencies. There are no capacitors or electrolytic capacitors in the signal path that could distort the music. Noise and crosstalk are only noticeable at the measurement limit.
The eye listens: timeless design, straightforward ergonomics
Like all source devices in the RESTEK M series, the MDAC+ D/A converter's claim to be easy to use and highly functional has been realised by allowing all special functions to be operated using the remote control or a single button. The design of the digital preamplifier and digital-to-analogue converter remains puristically clear.
