Every component part has been precision engineered in-house to the strictest tolerances to contribute to an outstanding musical performance

This exciting entry level turntable uses the unique styling of Synergy and comes complete with the highly acclaimed SME 309 tonearm and internal Crystal Cable wiring as standard. The Model 12A is available in three paint finishes of traditional SME Black, Dark Grey and Dark Blue with contrasting detailing.

Speed Control
The electronic control unit uses a high-performance microprocessor, optimised for motor control. Closed loop speed control is implemented using a proportional plus integral (PI) algorithm. Speed ranges are 33.3, 45 & 78 rpm, with fine pitch speed adjustment allowing increments/decrements of +/-0.01% of the selected speed.

The electronic control circuitry and power supply unit are housed in an external one-piece CNC machined case. This new design offers complete isolation and support and is the perfect environment for the electronics. Speed selection controls are mounted on the front facia panel with LED indicators.

Designed to compliment the Model 309 tonearm.

Crystal Cable Wiring
The Model 12A is equipped with a premium grade signal cable from Crystal Cable which is installed inside the tonearm, connected to phono stage and coupled with the cartridge. Pure mono-crystal silver conductors in miniature format. Providing precious metal in its most pure version, lifting the musical performance to a higher level.

The Model 12 MK" displays the same delicious sense of insight and clarity as its biggest sibling, and still one of the best front-to-back soundstage scales of any deck at the price. It immerses you in music and brings the performers into your listening area.

There's an unflappable sense of solidity to the Model 12 MK2's performance as nothing seems to faze it.

The impeccable engineering in its construction translates to an even-handedness, both in a technical sense across the audio band and a musical sense as it tackles every style and genre with apparent ease.

...takes everything in its stride.

No other turntable or tonearm manufacturer has quite managed to blend so much confidence and detail together with such a sense of consummate musical poise.

The bass presence of this recording is magnificent and it power through our listening room with real drive, while the sense of space and depth set up by the deck is astonishing, as is its dynamic range.

...organ notes appear as though they're floating up in the air, rising behind and between the loudspeakers from an eerily quiet background.

The Model 12 MK2 effortlessly places the listener smack bang in the centre of the action... extraordinary degree of openness... the Model 12 MK2 easily captures musical subtleties...

We've yet to hear a vinyl player at this level dissect this track so effectively in sonic terms while keeping the playing so masterfully together... more spacious... as for the Model 12 MK2's low-end delivery, it is deep and precise with a fine sense of pace and timing.

Each note starts and stops with exacting aplomb and there is an ever-present and excellent feeling of impact and tunefulness throughout the performance.

About the Brand

About us

SME was formed in 1946 under the name "The Scale Model Equipment Company" to manufacture scale models and parts for the model engineering trade. During the 1950s SME moved away from model making to precision engineering, principally parts for aircraft instruments and business machines.

In 1959 Alastair Robertson-Aikman, the Company's founder, required a pick-up arm for his own use and an experimental model was built. It received such an enthusiastic reception from friends in the sound industry that it was decided to produce it commercially and the first SME precision pick-up arm appeared in September 1959. At this time the company's name was changed to SME Limited, a less committal title to suit its new activities.

Delivery is free for all orders over £250.

'In Stock' items ordered before 1pm will be dispatched the same day.

We use DPD Local 'Next Day Service' for most UK deliveries. Orders sent via 'DPD Local - Next Day Service' will be fully tracked with a 1-hour delivery timeslot on the day of delivery. Standard delivery is Monday to Friday.

Saturday delivery can be selected at checkout for £19.95.

Small items and LP's may be sent using Royal Mail.

Large/heavy items may be sent using TNT Express.
